Opal Pearl Hixson, 75, of Chattanooga, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at her home.

Mrs. Hixson was a member of Mile Straight Baptist Church and was retired from Eckerd Drugs as a pharmacy assistant.

She was also a Gold Star mother and was preceded in death by her son, Randall Lee Hixson; her parents, Henry and Mae Miller; a brother, Ralph Miller; and sisters, Thelma Hooper, Louetta McKenzie and Cecil Hampton.

Survivors include her husband, Kenny Lee Hixson; daughters, Jane Slater, Soddy-Daisy, Barbara Wilson, Chattanooga, and Nancy Bowman, Soddy-Daisy; son, Gary Hixson, Soddy-Daisy; sisters, Joyce Hobbs, Dean Rymer, Alvada Rymer and Evelyn Collins, all of Altamont, Tenn., and Loyce Winton and Lillard Stewart, both of Guntersville, Ala.; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Mile Straight Baptist Church with Dr. Al Goss officiating.

Interment will be in Foster-Hixson Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today and Sunday 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at Williamson and Sons Funeral Home.

Obituary:

Kenny Lee Hixson, 86, of Red Bank, TN, born January 19, 1923, died September 16, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Miller Hixson; son Randall Lee Hixson; brother, Floyd Hixson; sisters, Mary Ellen Potter, Verna Turner and his parents, Walter & Tiny Hixson.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jane & Al Slater of Soddy-Daisy; daughters, Barbara Wilson & Nancy Bowman both of Chattanooga; son and daughter-in-law, Gary & Brenda Hixson; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a special friend Cheryl Welch, who helped care for him for the past fifteen months.

He served his country in the United States Army during World War II serving in many places of battle. Mr. Hixson was a proud American. He has lived in the Chattanooga area for the past sixty years and retired form Koehring Southern as a Welder after many years of service. He was a faithful Christian and a member of the Baptist Faith. He loved playing golf and was a Golf Instructor to many young golfers at several of the area courses.   

The funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 19, 2009, at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Wilburn Hardyman officiating. Burial will follow in Foster-Hixson Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation is 6:30 TO 8:30 Friday and 12:00 TO 2:00 Saturday at the funeral home.

Our family would like to offer a special thanks to the Staff at Consulate Healthcare of Chattanooga where he was known as their Papaw and Ray of Sunshine.
