Donavon Eugene “Coach” Penney, 67, of Soddy-Daisy, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 14, 2013.  He was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church.  Don retired from DuPont after 38 years of service.  He loved gardening, farming, hunting, fishing, the University of Tennessee, his church, his family and most of all, his Savior.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Gladys Penney.  

Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Saralyn Brumlow Penney; son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Stephanie Penney; daughter, Lindsey Penney; sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Roy Kelly; grandchildren, Jayden Penney and Baylor Penney and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Street Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Sanchez, Rev. Jim Evans and Bishop Calvin Nunley officiating.  Burial will follow at East Soddy Community Cemetery with Glenn Leming, Coleman White, Bill McCree, J.E. Carroll, John Keylon and Mack Morgan serving as pallbearers. Deacons of Oak Street Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.  Visitation is Tuesday from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday after 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Oak Street Baptist Church Building fund, 11340 North Oak Street, Soddy-Daisy, TN 37379.
