Lawrence Edwin Smith, a lifelong resident of Ooltewah died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, in a local hospital. He was 74.
Mr. Smith retired from the Electric Power Board after 44 years of service.
He was a member of Ooltewah Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and usher. He was also involved in various other church committees. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Bettye W. Smith; daughter, Carla Smith, Ooltewah; two sisters, Joyce Ann Barnett and Carolyn Kelley, both of Ooltewah; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road, with the Rev. Stephen Passmore and the Rev. C. Henry Preston officiating.
Burial will be in Varnell Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ooltewah Baptist Church Building Fund.
The family will receive friends today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
