LEWIS CHAPEL - Murphy Allen Grant, 95, a lifelong resident of Lewis Chapel, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 27, 2011.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Darwin Winford and Allen Leon Grant; parents, William Thomas and Prescilla Harvey Grant; brothers, Standifer, Colonel, Marvin and Claude Grant; sisters, Aldenia Ables and Hester Green.
Survivors include his wife of over 75 years, Bessie Viola Swanger Grant; daughters, Ester Lee and Audry (Bryan) Gibson, Dunlap, Tenn.; sons, Vernon Eugene "Gene" (Ruby) Grant and Ellis Elbert "Snooke" (Martha) Grant, Lewis Chapel; daughterin-law, Judy Grant; sisters, Viola Young and Naomi Fredricks, Soddy-Daisy; 25 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special nephews, James and Claude Grant.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. CDT Sunday, May 29, 2011, in the Ewton Funeral Home chapel with Brother Michael Grant and Brother Jason Stephenson officiating.
Burial will follow in Varner Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Marty, Randy, and Rocky Grant, Daniel Stephenson, Larry Lee and Elija Gibson.
Visitation noon-8 p.m. CDT today.
In leiu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sequatchie County Cancer Support Network. The family would also like to give a special thanks to NHC Dunlap and Hospice of Chattanooga.

LEWIS CHAPEL — Bessie Viola Swanger Grant, 98, a lifelong resident of Lewis Chapel, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 7, 2016.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Murphy Allen Grant; sons, Darvin Winford and Allen Leon Grant; parents, Martin and Elizabeth Turner Swanger; brothers, Azze, Johnny, Victor and Joe Swanger; sisters, Marty Swanger Edwards, Nora Swanger Cranmore, Lillas Swanger Johnson and Ellen Swanger Cooley.
Survivors include her daughters, Esther Lee and Audrey (Bryan) Gibson; sons, Vernon Eugene "Gene" (Ruby) Grant and Ellis Elbert "Snooks" (Martha) Grant; daughter-inlaw, Judy Grant Farley; 99 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special nephews, James and Nannie, Claude and Inez Grant.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. CDT Sunday, April 10, 2016, in the Ewton Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Jeff Smith and Brother Matt Henderson officiating.
Burial will follow in the Varner Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Sequatchie County Cancer Support Network or NHC Sequatchie of Dunlap.
