Wallace W. "Baggy Britches" Varner, a WWII Army veteran, fought and won his last battle Saturday, April 3, 2004, at 80 years of age.
Mr. Varner had been ill and in the care of his family.
He was preceded in death by father, Walter Varner; mother, Beulah Eustice Varner; wife, Mary Arwin Mysinger Varner; brothers, Gary Varner, Walter Varner, Edward Varner; sisters, June Varner Worley, Ollie Varner Denham, all of Soddy-Daisy.
Survivors include daughter, Donna Varner Akehurt and son-in-law Thomas Jenner Akehurst; grandchildren, Mary Katherine Akehurst, Eliza Teller Akehurst and Allan Jenner Akehurst II, all of Soddy-Daisy; sister, Vernon Varner Smith of Hendersonville, N.C.; many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins. Special relations, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Minnis, Mr. and Mrs. Jr. Bilbrey, Edward Brown and Miss Wanda Faye "Sweetheart" Mysinger, Mr. and Mrs. George Ed Mysinger, Mr. Billy Joe Mysinger, Mrs. Sheila Daughtrey, and Mrs. Carolyn Mysinger Varner, spouse of twin brother, Walter and Mary's sister.
Services will be on Monday at 11 a.m. officiated by Pastor George Dunbar of Soddy United Methodist Church.
Interment at Wilcoxen Cemetery.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers to be announced.
Mr. Varner will be receiving friends and family today at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home from 2-6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Varner's name to Soddy United Methodist Church, c/o Food Bank, 255 Depot St., Soddy-Daisy, TN 37379; or Trinity Hospice of Tennessee, 9420 Ooltewah Industrial Drive, Ooltewah, TN 37363.
