Teacher Helen Wilson is dead

Helen Louise Wilson, of Lookout Mountain, Ga., who owned and operated the Helen Wilson School of Dance in Chattanooga for more than 50 years, died Sunday, April 26, in a hospital. A

native of Oklahoma, she was a student of Martha Graham in New York, appeared in the Ziegfeld Follies in the 1920s and was a stand-in for Barbara Stanwyck in the movies.

A 50-year member of the Dance Master of America, Miss Wilson established chapters of the organization in Atlanta and Chattanooga. She was a choreographer for the Little Theatre and participated in many community projects.
A cousin, Stephen Stapp of Brownsburg, Ind., is her only survivor.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Bob Borger officiating.

Burial will be in Wilcoxen Cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Battlefield Parkway Chapel of Heritage Funeral Home.
