Frank C. Moore, 82, of Chattanooga, Tn., died on Sunday, July 29, 2007.
He was a lifelong resident of the Silverdale Community. Frank, a 1942 graduate of Tyner High School, received a degree in Chemistry from the University of Chattanooga in 1949.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a surgical technician with the 45th Field Hospital in the European Theater of Operations. He retired from the postal service in 1986 after 38 years of service. He began his career as a substitute clerk and retired as the Sectional Center Manager/Postmaster at Chattanooga.
He held local, state and national positions with the United Federation of Postal Clerks and was a past president of the Tennessee Chapter of the National Association of Postmasters of the United States.
He was a member of the Brainerd Kiwanis Club, the V.F.W., the American Legion and the Chattanooga Half Century Club.
He was a faithful life long member of the Silverdale Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he served as elder, treasurer, Sunday school teacher and choir member until the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Frankie Moore and his brother Charlton Moore.
He is survived by his sisters, Bettye J. Moore and Rose B. Moore; sister-in-law, Jane Moore; niece, Tammy (Brent) Burke; and great nephews, Kevin and Kyler Burke.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Silverdale Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Carlton Harper and Rev. Olen “Bud” Russell officiating. Pallbearers are Kevin Burke, Terry Moore, Mike Moore, John Moore, Rusty Moore, Jim Manis, Jimmy Nolan, and Jim Reagan. Honorary pallbearers are Kyler Burke, Bill Burke, Chuck Marsh, Henry Brooks, Bobby Thompson, Jim DeFriese, the Elders and the Volunteer Class of the Silverdale Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the Administrative staff of the Office of the Chattanooga Postmaster from 1967 to 1986.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, at the funeral home and from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. on Thursday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Silverdale Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 7407 Bonny Oaks Drive 37421.
Arrangements are by the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 7414 Old Lee Highway.
