Mary Varnell, 91, of Flintstone went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 16, 2017 surrounded by her loving family at her home.

She was born in Houston, TX, June 27, 1926, a daughter of Wright and Mary Duncan Fairhurst.

She has lived in the North Georgia area most of her life. Mary was a member of West Park Baptist Church. She retired from Huffaker and Associates after more than 40 years of service. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed fishing with her late husband and watching the Atlanta Braves.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, Forrest E. Varnell.

Survivors are daughters, Forrestine (Jimmy) Lewis, Chickamauga and Becky (Steve) Richardson, Flintstone; sons, Ben Wyly, Horseshoe Bay, TX and Mike (Ginger) Wyly, Signal Mtn.; step-daughter, Alyce (Carlis) Swafford, East Brainerd; grandchildren, Scott and Brandon Wyly, Sarah Wallin, Rachael Smith, Keith Richardson; 2 step-grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 PM Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor David Taylor officiating. Interment will be in the Varnell Family Cemetery in Ooltewah.

Memorial contributions may be made to West Park Baptist Church, 22 West Park Drive, Chickamauga, GA 30707.

The family will receive friends 4-8 PM Tuesday and 11-1 PM Wednesday at Heritage Funeral Home, Battlefield Parkway.

Forrest Edwin Varnell, 87, of Trenton, died Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at his residence.

Mr. Varnell was a retired painting contractor and was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of Trenton Masonic Lodge #179 F & AM, Alhambra Shrine, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Highland Sportsman’s Club, and the Tennessee Conservation League and was a World War II Air Force veteran.

He was the son of the late Kenneth and Eva Varnell and was also preceded in death by a son, Larry Varnell and brother, C.D. Varnell.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Varnell, Trenton; daughters, Alyce (Carlis) Swafford, Chattanooga, Forrestine (Jimmy) Lewis, Chickamauga, Becky (Steve) Richardson, Flintstone; sons, Ben (Carolyn) Wyly, Houston, Tx., Mike (Ginger) Wyly, Chattanooga, and Ron (Erica) Varnell, Houston, Tx.; nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the chapel with Dr. Spencer Johnson and David Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in Varnell Cemetery in Ooltewah with Jimmy Lewis, Steve Richardson, Keith Richardson, Carlis Swafford, Joshua Wallin, and Brandon Smith serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Boyd and Ed Nickols.
