The family of Lora Jane Mahan Allender announces her passing on April 6, 2010 at her home, she was 93. She was born in Soddy-Daisy, TN on May 13th, 1916 the daughter of Willam Mahan & Ossie Gann Mahan. On February 3rd, 1936 she married World War I decorated Veteran, William Avery Allender. They had nine children together. Mrs. Alender spent a great deal of her life in Altamont, TN with her husband, where she indulged in her lifetime hobby of gardening. She was of the Baptist Faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1968, as well as all of her siblings, John, Ramon, Martha, and Floyd, and also by three of her children who died in infancy, Robbie Jean, Avery Eugene and their brother; as well as one granddaughter, Paula Allender and a step-son, Calvin Allender.
She leaves behind her surviving children, Carrie Millican, Mildred Hale, Richard Allender, Charles Allender, Matilda Clark of California, and Gary Allender; several grandchildren, Sylvia Hale, Alan Millican, Ruth Millican, William Allender, Christopher Allender of California, Nicolas Clark of California, Nathan Clark of California, Avery Allender, Stanley Allender; and great-grandchildren, Reuben Denty, Christine Edmonds, Kaden Allender of California and Brianna Allender of California.
The funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 10, 2010, at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Kenneth Essex officiating. Burial will follow in Smith Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 P.M. TO 9:00 P.M. Friday and 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service Saturday.
The family would like to thank the Staff of Memorial North Park, Guardian Home Healthcare and the people of Hospice of Chattanooga for all their assistance.
Contributions made to these institutions in Mrs. Allender’s name would be a loving tribute to a wonderful woman.
