Gordon Thomas Brooks, 88, of Chattanooga, died on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, in a local hospital.

A longtime resident of Chattanooga, he was retired from South Central Bell after 38 years of service. He was a life member of the telephone pioneers. Mr. Brooks was the oldest living member and elder at Silverdale Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

He was the son of the late Gilbert and Zella Brooks and was preceded in death by his first wife, Earleene Brooks; grandson, Jeff Tallant; and brother, Marion Brooks.

Survivors are his wife, Sharon Brooks; daughters, Zella A. (Clarence) Tallant and Patricia (Richard) Wilburn, both of Chattanooga; stepdaughter, Ginger Shields, Savannah, Ga.; and stepson, J.D. Finley, Fyffe, Al.; brothers, Henry A. (Betty) Brooks and Jimmy F. (Jean) Brooks, both of Ooltewah; mother-in-law, Bonnie Lee Thompson, Chattanooga; six grandchildren; two step grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Carlton Harper officiating. Burial will be in Silverdale Cemetery.
