Daughter of Gilbert Taylor Abernathy (1820-1888) and his wife Anna Louisa Baxter (1821-1848).
She was married in Montgomery County, Tennessee on March 3, 1861 to George Frederick Talley (1840-1910), the son of Guilford Talley (1783-1858) and Nancy Parkinson "Ann" (Southerland) Talley (1800-1842).
A widow, Mary was 75 years old when she passed away at Flat Rock, Davidson County, Tennessee on July 10, 1916, and burial was two days later in Talley-Abernathy Cemetery in Montgomery County.
