Daniel McDowell Davis Jr., formerly of Sale Creek, died on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, in Baltimore, Md.
Mr. Davis was a graduate of Sale Creek High School and the University of Chattanooga. Upon graduating Mr. Davis went into the V-5 program of the Navel Service and graduated as an Ensign. He was stationed in Maryland until the time of his discharge.
Mr. Davis then began a lifetime service for Southern Bell and AT&T. He was appointed to a committee with Hubert Humphrey and others, the committee was for Equal Opportunity, and was a lifetime supporter of equal opportunity for woman and equal pay for them.
He was a member of the board of the Metropolitan Museum in New York. He lived a long and fruitful life with his wife.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Hulda Cunningham Davis; brother, Tom Davis; sisters, Mildred Davis, Polly Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Hodges Davis; children, Dan Davis III, Gina (Scott) Hamilton, Polly (Don) Nelson, Martha Davis, sisters, Nell Smith, Ruth (Gene) Elliott, Katharine Ray; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nephews, James (Marcella) Howard, Sam (Karen) Elliott, Jeff and Karen) Elliott; nieces, Becky (Arnold) Stulce, Kathy Vineyard, Emily (Bill) Rodgers, Sharon Ray.
Mr. Davis's funeral service was held in Baltimore, Md.
