Joe H. Vandergriff, 84, of Hixson, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at his home. He attended Friendship Baptist Church. He was a wounded veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII, and was a member of the American Legion Post 159. He loved the outdoors especially hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Gertrude Henderson, Edith Smith, Bessie Faye Fairbanks, Pauline Croft.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jean Vandergriff; sons, Dale (Sharon) Vandergriff, Terry (Irene) Vandergriff; sister, Myrtle Copeland; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Mike Combs officiating.
Interment will follow the service at Friendship Cemetery.
Family will receive friends from noon until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Friendship Baptist Church, 7226 Moses Road, Hixson, TN 37343.
