Sam B. Whiteman, 75, lifelong resident and farmer of Sullivan County, died at 11 a.m. yesterday at his home on the Bloomington Road, near Blountville, after a two-year illness. He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ella Barger Whiteman; nine children, Mrs. Roy Barger, Mrs. Alfred Rodefer, Mrs. C. R. Dunn, Mrs. Herbert Taylor, Sylvan, Hugh, John and Perry Whiteman, all of Blountville, and Mrs. Clarence Gobble, Bristol, and two sisters, Mrs. Victoria Owens, Piney Flats, and Mrs. Laura Hodge, Blountville. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The body is at the Paul Cook Funeral Home. BRISTOL HERALD-COURIER, 2 Nov. 1953.

Mrs. Ella Josephine Whiteman, 70, of Blountville died in a Bristol hospital at 7:30 p.m. Friday after an illness of several months. She was a member of the Blountville Methodist Church. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Roy Barger, Mrs. Alfred Rodefer, Mrs. Conley Dunn and Mrs. Herbert Taylor, all of Blountville, and Mrs. Clarence Hobbs, Bristol; four sons, John, Hugh, Sylvan and Perry Whiteman, all of Blountville; four brothers, Dave, Robert, Jake and Henry Barger, all of Blountville, and two sisters, Mrs. Emma Roller and Mrs. Maude Harr, both of Indian Springs, Tenn. The body is at the Paul Cook Funeral Home. BRISTOL HERALD-COURIER, 12 Oct. 1957, p. 2.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ella Josephine Whiteman, 70, Route 1, Blountville, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Blountville. The Reverends S. M. Luttrell and Kenneth Jennings will officiate. Burial will be in the Emmanuel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Henry Roller, Mack Wingar, Charlie Barger, Frank Houston, Arthur Bowery and Jim Whiteman. The body will be taken from the residence to the church to lie in state one hour before the service. Paul Cook Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. BRISTOL HERALD-COURIER, 12 Oct. 1957, p. 2
