William Charles Reed, 149 Kingsley Ave., died from injuries sustained in a farm tractor accident at his farm Friday (Aug. 28, 1998) in Yuma, Va.
Born in Scott County, Va., he had lived in Kingsport since an early age. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps having served in World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 3. and the VFW Charles DeWitt Byrd Post No. 3382. He retired from Eastman after 36 years of service. He had previously attended Vermont United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Carson Reed and Mollie Dale Sampson Reed ; and a stepson, Kenneth Grindstaff.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Evelyn (McCray) Reed , of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Pam) Brown, Sevierville, Tenn.; two stepdaughters; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Barry Reed , Morristown, and Charles and Laurie Reed , Bluff City; two stepsons; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Keith (Evelyn) McDavid and Ms. Helen Starnes, both of Gate City, Va., and Mrs. Gerald (Phyllis) Culbertson, Nickelsville, Va.; six brothers, Raymond Reed , Jimmy Reed , Ralph Reed , all of Gate City, Va., Billy Reed , California, Carl Reed , Weber City, Va., and Larry Reed , Knoxville; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport. Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Riley Boy officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens by the American Legion Post No. 3 Color Guard
