Alice Sims Carrier, age 86, passed from this world on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at NHC Healthcare of Bristol, VA.

The daughter of Malcolm and Ethel Sims of Hiltons, Virginia, she was born on December 29, 1927, the second of four children. On September 27 1950, she married Charles E. "Chuck" Carrier of Bristol, who she met when they worked together at Montgomery Ward in Kingsport. A year later, Alice gave birth to their son Mike.

Alice was involved in numerous local organizations, especially those at Anderson Street United Methodist Church. She and Chuck were active in their Sunday School class and the Meals-on-Wheels program of the church. During Mike's school days they were very active as members of the Vance Junior High and Tennessee High School Band Parents groups.

Alice and Chuck were always a couple in their activities. They enjoyed ballroom dancing and were members of the Around Town Dance Club for over forty years. They also loved to square dance. Alice was always busy and particularly enjoyed their work in the Seniors Program at VI College where they spent time with friends and the great students.

Alice also enjoyed sports and the outdoors. She and Chuck were active members in the Boone Lake property Owners Association and participated in numerous cleanup programs there. One of her favorite activities was attending Bristol Sox baseball games where she sat front row, behind home plate, and provided encouragement to the players and correction to the umpires.

Alice lived an active life with friends and family. She was preceded in death by her siblings Marie Sims Miller, Malcolm Sims, Jr. and Francis Sims Kern, as well as her parents.

She is survived by Chuck, her husband of 63 years, son Mike and his wife Carolyn, grandsons Charles "Chad" Carrier and Matthew Carrier and Matt's wife Mackenzie. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Gloria Sims and brother-in-law Everett Kern, brother-in-law Dave Carrier and his wife Gladys, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Mrs. Carrier will be held 2PM Sunday, February 2, 2014 at Anderson Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Barbara Doyle officiating.
