Margaret Stephenson Howard, 96, of Bristol, Tennessee went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 2, 2012. She was the daughter of the late Nancy Stephenson and Lee Stephenson of Tazewell, Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene L. Howard, devoted son, Robert "Bobby" Howard, daughter-in-law Susan C. Howard and four brothers: Earl Stephenson, Albert Stephenson, Fred Stephenson, and Garland Stephenson.

Mrs. Howard was a graduate of Tazewell High School and graduated from Radford State Teachers College in 1938 earning her BS Degree. Her first few years of teaching included teaching positions in Dante, Virginia and Lebanon, Virginia.

While teaching Home Economics in Lebanon she met and married Eugene Howard. Eugene soon enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in McAllen, Texas. Margaret moved with her husband and was hired as a teacher in the local area until Eugene was sent to serve overseas. She then returned to her hometown of Tazewell and worked for the Highway Department until her husband returned from the service.

After returning to the states, her husband accepted a job in Bristol. Margaret accepted a teaching position at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School in Bristol, Virginia. After a very rewarding experience at Thomas Jefferson, Margaret took a teaching position at Haynesfield Elementary School in Bristol, Tennessee. Margaret taught school there until her retirement in 1981, after 35 years of teaching in Virginia, Texas and Tennessee.

Margaret remained active in several clubs and organizations. She was a member of the Bristol Retired Teachers Association, Sullivan County Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gama Society and an active member of First Baptist Church of Bristol, Virginia.

She is survived by a granddaughter Carrie Tomlinson and husband Bryan Tomlinson of Lynchburg, Virginia, step-daughter, Samantha Tomlinson and also of Lynchburg, Virginia, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend our deepest appreciation to a few of her very special friends who were able to assist Margaret in her later years and made it possible for her to live life to the fullest. Special thanks to Valerie and G.W. Morrell, Barbara Watson, and Rhonda and Sammy Chafin. May God Bless You!

The funeral service for Mrs. Howard will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 in the Glenwood Mausoleum Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10:00- 11:00 am, prior to the service.
