Beryl Moorman “Susie” Ross, 92, died on December 4, 2009, in Savannah, Georgia, where she had resided since 2001. She was born on January 25, 1917, in Bloomfield, New Jersey, the daughter of Frank Joseph Moorman and Ada Lee Moorman, who preceded here in death, as did her brother, Eldred Moorman. She graduated from Bloomfield High School and later was trained in piano instruction for beginning and intermediate students. She was married to David Seman Ross of Cresson, Pennsylvania in 1942 and subsequently relocated to Bristol, Virginia–Tennessee in 1948 with Mr. Ross’ employer, Monroe Business Machines, Inc.

In Bristol, and over a long career of piano instruction, she taught countless numbers of young and older students to play the piano. She served as organist for Central Presbyterian Church in Bristol, Virginia, and, later, as organist for the First United Methodist and Christian Science Churches in Bristol, Tennessee. She was a volunteer with the American Red Cross and was instrumental in the organization and functioning of the Bristol Music Club.

Following the death of her husband of 57 years, she relocated to Savannah, GA., where she resided with her daughter, Diane Ross Gentry and Diane’s husband, Mark, and family for several years before moving to One Savannah Square assisted living facility in Savannah. In addition to her daughter, she is survived by two sons, David L. Ross of Richmond, Virginia, and R. Daniel Ross and his wife, Mary, of Clermont, Georgia. She also is survived by three granddaughters, Morgan and Danielle Gentry of Savannah, and Karen Ross of Wilmington, North Carolina, one grandson, Michael Ross, USN, of Norfolk, Virginia, and one great granddaughter, Cathryn Jolie Cotten, of Wilmington. She lived a long and full life and will be missed by all of her family.

Weaver Funeral Home of Bristol, Tennessee, is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 20, 2009, at 1:00 PM at the Glenwood-Shelby Hill Cemetery and Mausoleum in Bristol, Tennessee, followed immediately by a service in the celebration of her life at 2:00 PM with the Reverend Scott Price presiding.
