W.H. "Jack" Akers, 70, died Wednesday, May 19, 1999, at his home. He was born in McKenzie, TN, and a long-time resident of Sullivan County. He was a retired carpentry instructor and a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenter/Joiners Local 319. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Gloria Roberts Akers; two daughters, Jacqueline Campbell and Jan Moore, both of Blountville; a sister, Betty Presson of Vermilion, OH; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Aldersgate United Methodist Church by Akard Funeral Home of Bristol Tennessee. The Rev. Brad Hyde will officiate.
Mr. Akers is also survived by two sons-in-law, Richard Campbell and Donald Moore; three grandchildren, Richard Andrew Campbell, Christie Jolene Campbell and Ashleigh Rae Moore; and two great-grandchildren, Cadence Campbell and Norrin Campbell. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Stanley Roberts, Steve Roberts, Mike Roberts, Tim Roberts, Charles Pressor and William Folkner. Honorary pallbearers will be men of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
