BLUFF CITY - John Page McClelland Jr., 80, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, at James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
He was born in Bluff City, a son of the late John P. McClelland Sr. and Mary Clemma O'Dell McClelland. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps Third Division. A native of Bluff City, he was a member of Zollicoffer Lodge 444, Free and Accepted Masons for 50 years, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 414. He was ringmaster of ceremonies of Bristol, Bluff City and Piney Flats Horse Show Association. He was a member of Bluff City United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Brown McClelland, and a brother, H.E. "Gene" McClelland.
Survivors include his daughter, Bobby Wright and her husband Don; sons, John P. McClelland III and his wife Debbie and Scott R. McClelland and his wife Cathey; grandsons, Joshua Cunningham of Bluff City, Jessee McClelland and Michael McClelland; step grandson, Bradley Wright; sisters, Olivene Almany and her husband Doug and Mary Nelle Vance and her husband Allen; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:45 Thursday evening, Sept. 2, 2004, at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 8 o'clock, with Rev. Karen Albers officiating, and Masonic rites presented by Zollicoffer Masonic Lodge 444. The committal service and interment will be at 11 o'clock Friday morning, Sept. 3, 2004, in Sunrise Cemetery of Bluff City. Military rites will be presented by Highlands Fellowship Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Vance, Doug Almany, Mack Mottern, Ed Carrier, Buddy Carrier, T.R. Rutherford, Jack Elswick, Bill Carver, Herman Carrier, Mike McClelland, Tyler McClelland, John Weaver, Melvin Carrier, Jimmy Jones, Rab Harmon, Lenville Sams, J.C. Akard, Sam O'Dell, Dr. John O'Dell and Cecil Stitt. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send memorial contributions to Bluff City United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 190, Bluff City, TN 37618; or American Diabetes Association, 4205 Hillsboro Road, Suite 200, Nashville, TN 37215.
