Per James obit:
He was the husband of Naomi Graham Burkart and the son of the late Alphonse Charles and Alma Shiel Burkart. During World War II, he managed the Materials Laboratory at the Naval Experimental Station in Philadelphia, Pa. infant son, John Michael Burkart and sisters, Marjorie Coulter, Jeanette VonWerssowetz, Betty Jane Thurmond and Alma Lea Crowley. six children Clinton Foster (Carol) Goodwin, Constance Burkart (Jack) Leonard, James Alphonse (Diane) Burkart, Jr., Marjorie Burkart (Tom) Borchers, Susan Burkart (Vic) Wesley, and William Adams (Tammi) Burkart
