Elmer Dale Porter died Saturday, March 6, 1999 in a local hospital.
He was 58. He was a native of Washington County, Indiana, and had lived in Chattanooga since 1989. He was a member of Silverdale Baptist Church and was retired from Burner Systems.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry E. Porter and Margaret J. Ferber; three sisters, Agnes White, Marie Vaught and Beatrice Milligan, all of Mitchell, Ind. Survivors include his wife, Wanda S. Utterback Porter, Chattanooga; one daughter, Susan E. Long, Dunlap, Tenn.; two sons, Brent Porter, Athens, Tenn., and Kent Porter, Chattanooga; one sister, Mary F. Clipp, Columbus, Ind.; five brothers, Virgil Porter, Pekin, Ind., Gerald Porter, Orleans, Ind., Walter Porter and Leonard Porter, both of Mitchell, and Harry Porter of Brownstown, Ind; and three granddaughters.
Services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Dr. Bobby Atkins and the Rev. Tony Walliser officiating.
Burial will be at Silverdale Cemetery.

PALMER — Mrs. Wanda Sue Porter, 76, passed away Friday, Dec. 30, 2016, at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga.
She was born in Heltonville, Ind., on July 17, 1940, to Willard E. and Bessie W. Owens Utterback who preceded her in death along with her husband, Elmer D. Porter.
She was a former member of the Silverdale Baptist Church and currently attended the First Baptist Church of Gruetli-Laager. She was very active at the Gruetli-Laager Senior Center.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Alvin) Long, Palmer; sons, Brent (Sabrina) Porter, Rockvale, Tenn., and Kent (Cindy) Porter, of Bon Aqua, Tenn.; sister, Martha (Joe) LuAllen, Bedford, Ind.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday Jan. 2, 2017, in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Cary Gomer officiating, with burial to follow in the Silverdale Cemetery in Chattanooga.
