James Theodore "Jimmie" DeFriese died Wednesday, April 15, 1998, at a local hospital.

He was 77. Mr. DeFriese was a member of Silverdale Baptist Church, a 32nd-degree Scottish Rite Mason, and a member of Masonic Lodge 736 F&AM. Survivors include his wife, Estelle M. DeFriese; daughters, Kathy Evans, Orlando, Fla., and Jimmie Dee Kelley, Elizabethtown, Ky.; three grandchildren; and a sister, Martha Coffey, Rossville, Ga. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Silverdale Baptist Church with minister F. Bobby Atkins officiating. A private graveside service will be held in Silverdale Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the DeFriese Scholarship Fund at Silverdale Baptist Church, 7236 Bonnie Oaks Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37405; or to Hospice of Chattanooga, 165 Hamm Road, Chattanooga, TN 37405.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Estelle Moore DeFriese, who taught piano in Chattanooga for more than 60 years, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, in a local health care facility.
She was 77. Mrs. DeFriese, a resident of the Silverdale community, was a member of Silverdale Baptist Church and the Sunnyside Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Chattanooga Music Teachers Association (CMTA), the Tennessee Music Teachers Association and the National Music Teachers Association. She was a founding member of the CMTA Pianorama.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie DeFreise.

Survivors include two daughters, Jimmie Dee Kelley, Elizabethtown, Ky., and Kathy Evans, Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Lilyan Lucas, Soddy-Daisy; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service was held today at 11 a.m. at Silverdale Baptist Church after a family graveside service in Silverdale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the DeFriese Scholarship, c/o Silverdale Baptist Church, 7236 Bonny Oaks Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37421. Arrangements were by the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
