Elsie L. Torbett, age 98, died on Tuesday, February 27, 2007.
Elsie retired from Brock Candy Company where she worked for over 30 years and was an active member of Silverdale Baptist Church throughout her life until she was not physically able to attend.
She was preceded in death by her father, J.C. Torbett, noted Gospel music composer, her mother, Jennie Lee Poe Torbett, and her step-mother, Nancy Emmaline Howard Torbett; two sisters, Ollie Marie Torbett Harris, Mable Juanita Torbett Carden, and a brother J. B. Torbett.
Elsie is survived by a sister, Norma Estelena Torbett Wheeler; nephews, Dr. Zack Carden, Dr. Charles Wheeler, Gene and Edwin Harris, and Jimmy Torbett; nieces, Elsie Harris Kinley, Marjorie Harris Cronan, Emily Harris Walston, Elizabeth Harris Hinton, Lawana Torbett Blackmore, Charlotte Torbett Peterson and Claudette Torbett Kleckner; many great, and several great-great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. on Thursday at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. The Reverend Zachary F. Carden, III, her great-nephew, will conduct the funeral service. Interment will be in the Silverdale cemetery immediately after the service.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga.
