Susan Carol Brown Jones age 78, went to sleep peacefully and woke up in the arms of her Savior on May 12, 2021 after a two- and half-year battle with lung cancer. Born May 5, 1944 to Edward & Bernice Doty Brown, she graduated from Central High School in 1962. In 1969 she married Terry Lee Williams, Sr. and in 1970 had Terry Lee Williams, Jr. After her husband's death in 1973, she married Stephen Edwin Jones in 1974 and they had Carrie Elaine Jones Hinesley in 1976.
A lifelong resident of Chattanooga, she was a member of Silverdale Baptist Church where she attended and served faithfully for many years. A retired bookkeeper for organizations such as the Multiple Sclerosis Society and Leadership Ministries, Susan devoted her life to loving and caring for her family and faithfully serving in her local church. Susan was a beloved wife, mother, sister, friend, and most importantly, Nana. She will be greatly missed, but all should be comforted to know, without any doubt, that she is now completely healed and cancer free. She is with her Savior Jesus Christ and many loved ones she has missed greatly.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Terry L Williams, Sr., brothers: James Brown and Phillip Brown.
Susan is survived by her husband of 46 years, Stephen Edwin (Ed) Jones, son: Terry Lee (Jenny) Williams, Jr., of Ringgold, GA, daughter: Carrie Elaine (Matt) Hinesley of Greenville, GA, grandchildren: Maggie Caroline Williams, Terry Lee (Ty) Williams, III, Hayden Hinesley, Molly Elizabeth Williams, Maddie Hinesley, brothers: Steven (Rita) Brown, Daniel (Glynis) Brown, Timothy (Pam) Brown, a beloved sister-in-law: Mary Joyce Brown, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Silverdale Baptist Church in the Chapel from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm on May 15, 2021 with a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Tony Walliser officiating. Interment will follow in the Varnell Family Cemetery in Ooltewah, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Compassion International or Silverdale Baptist Church. Online guest book at www.wilsonfuneralhome.com.
