Nancy McDonald Reinke, a well-known, Chattanooga-born artist, died in Alexandria., Va., on Wednesday, December 9, 2009, after a battle against cancer with her beloved husband Roger and her children by her side.

She was a graduate of Girls Preparatory School and attended Vanderbilt University. She later became a founding artist at the renowned "Torpedo Factory," a dilapidated munitions center from World War II that was transformed into a magnificent fine arts center in Old Town, Alexandria. She was known for her printmaking, etchings, woodcuts and oil paintings.

Her works are on display in many public buildings, including the Library of Congress and the State of Virginia Legislative Building, as well as being held in many private collections.

The daughter of the late Roy and Elizabeth McDonald, she was preceded in death by her brother, Frank McDonald, and is survived by her husband of 54 years, Roger W. Reinke, as well as sisters Helen Exum, Martha McDonald M.D., and Betsy (Lee) Anderson.

Survivors include four children, Jeanne Zoldak and her husband Perry of Orlando, Fla., Martha Netherton and her husband Bob of Dillon, Colo., David Reinke and his wife, Karen, of Silver Springs, Md., and Bryan Reinke and his wife, Vickie, of Fairfax, Va. She will also be missed by her three grandchildren, Miles, Jake and Matthew Reinke, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins in the Chattanooga area.

She was baptized and married at the First Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga before becoming a longtime member of the Bush Hill Presbyterian Church in Alexandria, where a funeral service will be conducted at noon on Saturday.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the church. The church is located at 4916 Franconia Road, Alexandria, VA 22310, and cards may be mailed to the Reinke home at 5301 Neville Court, Alexandria, Va., 22310.

Following the service, there will be a private family burial on Monday at the McDonald Farm in Sale Creek with Rev. Ben Haden officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any remembrances be made to an animal rescue organization of one's choice.
