Marlin Charles Sims, 89, of Mowbray Mountain, died on Nov. 24, 2019.

Mr. Sims is survived by three children - Tommy Marlin Sims, of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., Cynthia Sims Garcia, and Charlie Bates (Pamela)

Sims, of Dayton, Tenn.; four grandchildren - Arielle Garcia Hayes (Michael), Joseph Marlin Garcia, Nicole (Matt) Chapman and Matthew Sims; and one great-grandchild, Michael Hayes III.

Mr. Sims was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Sarah Louise Sims; his parents, Joe and Lillian Hensley Sims; his brothers Sammy, Lamar and Gary; and his sister, Agnes Sims.

Mr. Sims is survived by brothers Joe (Linda) Sims and Ed Sims; sisters Mildred Barker, Faye Tryon, Catherine Heard and Nancy (Charles) Vandergriff, all of Dunlap, Tenn., Patricia (Ray) Phillips, of Hixson, Tenn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marlin was an accomplished masonry contractor for over forty years. He worked on both commercial and residential projects primarily in Hamilton and Sequatchie Counties. Marlin served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Marlin's loving caregivers, Becky King and Regina Lambert of Caring Hearts of Dunlap, Inc. and the nurses and aides of Avalon Hospice.

In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Sims is being cremated. A "Celebration of Life" memorial service will be held at a time to be announced.

Condolences can be sent to the family at 2535 Mowbray Pike, Soddy Daisy, TN 37379.

Sarah Louise Heard Sims, age 93, passed away on September 20, 2016.

Ms. Sims is survived by her husband of 65 years, Marlin Sims of Soddy Daisy, TN. Ms. Sims leaves behind three children: Tommy Marlin Sims of Mt. Juliet, TN; Cynthia Sims Garcia and Charlie Bates (Pamela) Sims of Dayton, TN; and four grandchildren: Arielle Garcia Hayes (Michael), Joseph Garcia, Nicole Sims and Matthew Sims.

She is survived by one sister, Charlene Johnson of Dunlap, TN and numerous nieces and nephews.  

Ms. Sims is originally from Sequatchie County, TN. She is a direct descendant of the first non-indigenous child born in Sequatchie Valley and a long line of educators and county leaders which include Sequatchie County Judge Houston Heard and Professor Freiley, a former Sequatchie County Superintendent of Schools. Ms. Sims succeeded her father, Creed Bates Heard, as Sequatchie County Court Clerk and remained in that position until going to work at the Volunteer Army Ammunition Plant from where she retired. Ms. Sims also worked at the Oak Ridge plant during the development of the atomic bomb.

Visitation will be held at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home in Soddy Daisy, TN from 4-8 pm EST on Thursday, September 22 and the memorial service will be held in the Chapel at 1:00 pm EST on Friday, September 23. Graveside internment will be at Millsaps Cemetery on Hotwater Road, Mowbray Mountain following the memorial service.
