Mary Maughan Potts, 87, of Hixson, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, in a local health care facility.

She was a member of Hixson United Methodist for 66 years and a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Lamar Potts; parents, John and Delia Maughan; and brother, Herschel Maughan.

Mrs. Potts is survived by her daughters and son-in-laws, Doris and Marion Sherrill, of Hixson, Nadine and James Johnston, of Graysville, Tenn., and Marilyn and Tom Davis, of Virginia Beach, Va.; grandchildren, Kim Adams, of Knoxville, Jennifer Kale and Kelly Watts, of Hixson, Jill Smith, of Soddy-Daisy, Eric McNair, of Durham, N.C., and Tracey Johnson, of Portsmouth, Va.; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Johnny Maughan, of Hixson.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Martin and Dr. John Bacon officiating.

Interment will be in Schneitman Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Hixson United Methodist Church.
