Peggy Rogers influenced thousands of young lives as a teacher and school administrator for more than 37 years in the Bristol Tennessee School System. She began teaching at Fairmount elementary school, but most of her teaching career was spent at Vance Junior High School where she taught English and music. As an English teacher, she stressed grammar and writing skills. As choral director for 18 years, she not only taught music to young singers, she also impressed upon students the importance of community service. Her choral groups presented approximately 20 programs each year for schools, churches, civic clubs and nursing homes. Prior to retirement, Mrs. Rogers served as assistant principal at Vance Junior High School for 6 years during which time she encouraged student achievement and developed programs to reward student accomplishments. In her teaching career, she mentored 21 student teachers and acted as an accreditation evaluator of public school systems for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. In addition to her teaching career, Peggy was actively involved in her community where she was an avid supporter of the arts. As a young woman, she frequently presented solo vocal musical programs for local churches and civic clubs. Peggy also enjoyed performing in Theatre Bristol and other community theatre musical productions. She was a member of the Bristol Music Club and was a member and past president of the Blue Stocking Club. She was very proud of her accomplishments as co-editor of the Blue Stocking Club’s 75th anniversary commemorative cookbook that includes Bristol historical photos and memorabilia gathered from club scrapbooks, courthouse records, cemeteries and libraries in addition to members’ recipes. Peggy was a board member of the Paramount Chamber Players, and she was serving as president of that organization at the time of her death.

Peggy was a committed Christian who served her church faithfully. She was raised in the Central Christian Church, and she has been an active member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church for more than 40 years where she was a member of the chancel choir, served on the church Altar Guild and is a past member of the church vestry.
