MARGARET ELIZABETH SCHWAM, 91, longtime resident of Cordova died September 19, 2007. She was preceded in death by her six brothers and three sisters. Ms. Schwam was a graduate of Memphis State in 1939 where she had been active in the first women's basketball team. She received her Master'sfrom Peabody of Vanderbilt in Nashville, TN. In 1941 she worked at the National Fireworks making ammunition during World War II. A retired teacher of many years, she taught at Covington High School, Arkadelphia College, Wood Junior College, Bethel College, Shelby County Schools and Memphis City Schools before retiring in 1977. Ms. Schwam enjoyed many things. She was active with teacher associations, student activities, and had 39 great years at the Circle F Dude Ranch Camp in Lake Wales, Florida and was also a Girl Scout Director in Mississippi. After retiring, she enjoyed traveling on cruises and staying active in many community affairs, especially being the Historian at Cordova Community Center Museum and was an active member of Cordova Presbyterian Church. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Cordova Estates. She leaves abrother, Richard Lee Schwam at the old Cordova home. She was loved by her 11nieces, five nephews and many great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, September 21, at Cordova Presbyterian Church with a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. The interment will follow in Cordova Cemetery. Anyone wishing to send memorials, the family has requested Cordova Presbyterian Church or charity of donor's choice. Memphis Funeral Home Germantown Parkway Chapel
