Barbara Swords, 75, of Burlison, passed away on Saturday, November 11. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 16 at the Covington Funeral Home chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. She was a member of the Helping Hands Cancer Support Group and active member of the Senior Citizens Center where she served on the board of directors. She was also a member of the Smyrna Baptist Church where she held multiple positions including GA Leader, WMU Program Leader and was involved in the Mississippi River Ministry. Barbara was a Byars Hall High School graduate, a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Dyersburg State Community College, a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Fraternity and a retired secretary. She is survived by her husband, Jack Swords; one daughter, Jackie M. (Philip Roger) Liberatore of Ramona, CA; one son, Gregory E. Swords of Burlison; one brother, Richard Jackson of Covington; four sisters, Christine Knight of Burlison, Faye Alsbrook of Covington; Gail Matthews of Piperton and Pam Cromwell of Burlison; four grandchildren, Lauren Ashley Swords, William Seth Swords, Andrew Craig Swords and Austin Gregory Swords and one great grandchild, Ruby Holiday Bivens. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Gladys Lewis Jackson and one sister, Betty Shahan. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Smyrna Baptist Church Kitchen Fund.
