Louise Gower Elliston July 18, 1917 - June 27, 2005 Louise Gower Elliston died on June 27 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. She was 87 years old and died of heart failure. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Covington. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Dr. Lewis D. Elliston of Covington, her three children, Dr. Dan Elliston, Jr. of Nashville, Katherine Elliston Simonian of Germantown, Joan Louise Elliston of Chevy Chase, MD, her sister, Katherine Willard of Clarksville, TN, her two brothers, James Martin Gower, Jr., of Springfield, TN and Willard Earl Gower of Cedar Hill, TN, and her seven grandchildren, Carl Elliston of New York City, Alex Simonian of San Antonio, TX, Lauren Simonian of Murfreesboro, TN, David Elliston and Michael Elliston of Ashville, NC, Paul Elliston and Danielle Elliston of Nashville. Mrs. Elliston was a loyal wife, mother and grandmother. While her children were in school, she served as president of the Covington PTA and was awarded a Life Membership in the Tennessee Congress of Parents and Teachers. She organized Girl Scout troops for both of her daughters and became the troop leader for each. Mrs. Elliston remained active until her death with family events and travels. Mrs. Elliston was an accomplished professional. She was the librarian at Byars-Hall High School in Covington beginning in 1939 and served for two years. After she married Dr. Elliston, she was active in her husband's medical practice. She served as president, secretary and treasurer of the Auxiliary to the Tennessee Osteopathic Medical Association. She served as office administrator for the Elliston Clinic and Hospital and later for the Elliston Clinic when the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Tipton County opened. She also served as the Medical Records Librarian for the Elliston Clinic and Hospital. Most recently, Mrs. Elliston assisted her husband in administrative work related to his role at the Medical Examiner of Tipton County. Mrs. Elliston attended the First United Methodist Church in Covington where she was a faithful member. She continued her interests in teaching as the Sunday School teacher in the Youth Department from 1945-1956. Afterwards, she taught the Friendship Bible Class for 61 years until her death. Mrs. Elliston was a humanitarian and involved in loyal charities. When the Ellistons closed the Elliston Clinic and Dr. Elliston ended his medical practice, the Ellistons donated the Elliston Building to the Exchange Club-Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse. Mrs. Elliston was a member of the Advisory Board at the Center. The Library was created in her honor and dedicated to her as a tribute to her dedication and love of learning at the Center. Mrs. Elliston traveled around the world with her husband and family. Upon her return from foreign trips, Mrs. Elliston did ""travel talks"" to many organizations in Covington. Mrs. Elliston had many hobbies, including sewing and gardening. She was a member of the Little Book Club where she served as president, secretary and treasurer. She was an avid reader of all types of literature and loved a wide range of music and the arts.
