Mr. Charles Wilson Yoakum, 89 of Covington, TN, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at his home on January 19, 2018. He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris Marie (McCord) Yoakum, his parents, Palmer Allen and Mary Elizabeth; and his brothers, Jake and Bob.

Charles is survived by his sons, Charles "Chuck" Yoakum, II (Konnie) of Atlanta, GA, John Yoakum (Kathy) of Atlanta, GA, and Jim Yoakum of New York; he is also survived by his grandchildren, Margaret (Yoakum) Mazza, Libby Yoakum, Nathan Yoakum, all of Atlanta, GA; and his sister, Betty Burross (Joe) of Covington.

Charles married Doris Marie McCord on June 23, 1950 in Memphis, TN. Doris passed away September 21, 2015. Charles and Doris were married 65 wonderful years and were parents to 3 children and grandparents to three grandchildren. They were long-time, active members of the Covington Church of Christ.

Charles was born in the Solo Community, Tipton County, on March 3, 1928. He graduated from Byars Hall High School and after a stint in the Army, he continued on to receive a medical degree from the University of Tennessee.

After college, Charles worked in the medical field as an anesthetist before beginning a long and distinguished career in law enforcement. He served as the Chief of Police in Covington, a Federal Agent for the ATF and as Inspector for the Tipton County Sheriff's Department. His life was full and robust and he was often sought-out for counsel and advice or just to share a good story about "the old days." In 2012 he published a book, Teaching Mama to Drive, where he told stories of his life from childhood up through raising a family and his professional career.

The funeral services for Mr. Yoakum will be held at 12PM on January 24 at the Covington Church of Christ. Visitation will be held from 10-12 prior to the services beginning. Iinterment will be held at the R. H. Munford Cemetery.
