Sara Roper Shelton age 86 passed away Thursday October 27, 2016. She passed away peacefully while at her home – exactly as she has prayed for Jesus to receive her.
Sara was a woman of varied interest including music, reading, movies, politics, and sports. For many years of her life she was very active in sports and outdoor activities such as swimming, tennis, and fishing – often doing these activities with her son and husband.
Later in life when health issues limited her ability to participate in these activities, she still found great enjoyment in spending countless hours watching football, basketball and NASCAR on TV with her husband. She was an especially avid fan of the Boston Celtics and the Tennessee Volunteers.
Sara had a gracious and generous heart and was always looking to help other people; especially those who were hurting or broken.
She was a woman of strong and passionate convictions; convictions which were not shaken even when they were unpopular.
Of all the roles in her life, the ones that Sara always cherished the most were those of wife, mother, and grandmother. She believed that this was what God truly created her to do and she was consistently excellent in all of these roles.
Her grandchildren always loved coming to spend summer vacations on the farm in Covington with “Sasa and Moochie”. They each have special memories of these times that they still treasure today.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Edward "Moochie" Shelton, she also leaves a son, Rev. Bill (Sherri) Shelton of Knoxville; grandchildren Will (Alex) Shelton, Sara Shelton, and Emily (Bryant) Adler; and a great-grandson, Lucas Adler.
