The epitaph on the back of his tombstone reads 'This modest slab is erected in memory of John R. Martin by his brother and sister who loved him'. The rest of the inscription can not be deciphered except the last few words '. . . sorrow by his death'
John Richard Martin was William and Sarah Glass/Martin's second son. He was killed while serving in the Civil War with the Confederate army.
