Weakley County,

Drucilla Vawter Martin
July 15, 1778 - November 4, 1856
Born in Cumberland Co, VA
Wife of Thomas Martin

Drucilla Vawter/Martin's father was Samuel Vawter and her mother Agnes Richardson Vawter. Samuel was a Patriot of the American Revolutionary War.

The Vawter and Richardson family history has been extensively documented in "Mama's Ancestors" by Agnes E. Smyth. If you follow the Richardson ancestors the journey will take you to the Christopher Branch Sr. line of early Virginia. This is a wonderful lineage and well worth the awareness for all the younger descendents whose families came to the Weakley County area in the 1830's.

The Vawter name has been spelled Vawter, Vauter, or Vaughter. Edward Vawter, known as "The Builder" was the grandfather of Drucilla. He built Vauter's Episcopal Church in Loretto, Essex County, Virginia in 1731. This Church, eleventh oldest in Virginia, is named on the Virginia Landmark's Register and the National Register of Historic Places. We are indebted to the late Ann Martin/Harpole of Richmond, Virginia and E. B. Vawter, now deceased of Seattle, Washington for the research of the Vawters.
