Montice Bissinger Howard, of Chattanooga, died Tuesday evening in a local hospital.

She retired as librarian for Tyner High School after 28 years of service there and was formerly librarian at Black Star High School in Alva, Ky., also at Franklin High School in Franklin, Tenn.

She was a member of East Ridge Church of Christ where she served for many years as church librarian.

Mrs. Howard was a graduate of Elizabethton High School, and received her B.A. from David Lipscomb University and her M.A. from East Tennessee State University.

She was a member of the Chattanooga, Hamilton County and Tennessee Retired Teachers associations. She was also a member and past president of the Chattanooga Area Library Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harlan Austin Howard.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Joan Howard of Mocksville, N.C.; brother and sister-in-law, Mack and Myra Bissinger of Crossville, Tenn.; nieces and nephews, Bobby and Nina Bissinger, Karina Bissinger, David and Donna White, Dotty and Grady Vanlandingham and Andy White.

Funeral services will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Minister Charles Cochran officiating.
Interment will be in Silverdale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and Friday from 1 p.m. to service time at the funeral home.
Arrangements are by Chattanooga Funeral Home Crematory and Florist.
