Edward Murray Reed, age 79, of Knoxville, passed away Monday, January 25, 2016. Ed was born February 11, 1936 in Jellico, Tn. And grew up in Knoxville. He attended Lincoln Memorial University where he met his wife Gail. He was a permanent Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves and was a sharpshooter and demolitions expert. They were members of Beaver Dam Baptist Church for 33 years where he taught Sunday School for several years. Ed worked at Rohm and Haas Chemicals for 35 years. He and Gail moved to Georgetown, Tn. in 1996 and were faithful members of the Gamble Rd. Baptist Church in Birchwood where he also taught Sunday School. He was a deacon and later chairman of the deacons before his health declined. Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Gail Holder Reed. Her parents, Herbert and Mildred Holder and his parents, Fred and Eva Reed. He is survived by sons: Ted Reed and wife Kelly of Corryton, Tn. Eric Reed and wife Tammie of Knoxville. Grandchildren: Lindsay (Iain) Christie, Tyler Reed, Brigitte (Nick) Keene, Steve Shumate, LeAndra (Seth) Lakin, and Keely and Christopher Reed. Great-grandchildren: Hendry and Larkin Christie. He also loved Andrew, Brandon Moyers and Cassandra (Daniel) Gary as his own grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5-8pm Friday, January 29 at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel, Knoxville. The family will then receive friends in Birchwood, Tn., Sunday, January 31 from 1-4pm at the Gamble Rd. Baptist Church with the funeral service to follow at 4pm, Rev. Josh Cornelius and Rev. Gurney Beard officiating. Interment to follow at the Holder Memorial Cemetery at the church. Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel.


Gail Holder Reed, of Georgetown, TN, died on Monday, October 5, 2009. She was 72 years old. She was born on May 15, 1937 in Georgetown, TN, where she lived until she left to attend Lincoln Memorial University. After marrying, she made Knoxville, TN, her home, where she attended U.T. and taught at Halls Primary School in Halls Cross Roads. She belonged to Beaver Dam Baptist Church for 33 years, where she was an active member. During her membership there, she taught Sunday School in the children and high school departments. She was on the Pulpit Committee in 1977-78, was on the food committee for bereaved families, and the last 8 years taught the Ruth Sunday School Class, until health problems forced her retirement. She also taught in a private Christian school in 1978-1980.

She is survived by husband, Edward M. Reed, of Georgetown, TN; sons Ted Reed, of Corryton, TN, and Eric Reed and his wife, Tammie, of Knoxville, TN. Also three grandchildren, Lindsay Reed, Tyler Reed, and Brigitte Creswell; brothers, Leroy, Charlie and Tommy and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Mildred Holder.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 10, 2009, at noon in Gamble Road Baptist Church with the Rev. Josh Cornelius, the Rev. Ronnie Powell and the Rev. Gurney Beard officiating.

Interment will follow in Holder Memorial Cemetery at the church.

The family will receive friends at the church from 5-8 p.m. Friday, October 9, 2009, and on Saturday for one hour before service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Gamble Road Baptist Church Building Fund at 11703 Dolly Pond Road, Birchwood, TN 37308.

Turner Funeral Home Inc., Highway 58 Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
