Mary A. Westbrook LeVan, co-founder of the Random Acts of Kindness program, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, at her home.
She was 89. Mrs. LeVan, of Hixson, was a member of the pioneer Plumlee family in Red Bank.
She taught school at Ganns Middle Valley and at the Hixson First Baptist Church kindergarten for 20 years.
She was the oldest member of Hixson First Baptist, where the funeral will take place with Dr. Jerry Falwell as one of the officials.
At the church she was an officer in the Bible Club, the oldest member of the choir and was active in the nursery and church booster club.
She retired at age 86 from the John Calvin Apartments.
Mrs. LeVan was an officer in the Hixson Garden Club, a member of the Golden Agers, organized the Bonny Oaks Parent Teacher Association and was elected Hamilton County "Mother of the Year" in 1977. Mrs. LeVan was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy LeVan; son, William LeVan; parents, Albert and Eugenia Plumlee Westbrook; a sister, Viola M. Watt; and a great-grandson.
Survivors include a son, Mike LeVan, Hixson; four daughters, Jimmie L. Sims, Chattanooga, Clarice Hartman and Dorothy Conner, both of Hixson, and Anna Knowles, Lynchburg, Va.; sister, Louise Moses, Hixson; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Hixson First Baptist Church with Dr. Joel Wood, the Rev. Terry Shannon and Dr. Jerry Falwell officiating.
Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery.
Visitation will be today one hour before the service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the WMU at Hixson Baptist Church, 5800 Grubb Road, Hixson, TN 37343.
