Riverboat Captain Charles R. Bear & his wife Carrie Russ Beard.
He was well known on the Tennessee, Mississippi, and Ohio rivers for his river skills and fairness. Carrie Russ's family owned the Russ Hotel in Clifton. The hotel structure and famous balconies overlooking the Tennessee river are still in Clifton today. In 1939, General Rummel and his officers visited Clifton and stayed there as they studied the Civil War tactics of the Confederacy. Mary Beard Anderson is also buried in Clifton - she was famous for her career in aviation in WWII and her husband was a Commodore for US Ocean Liners.
