BRISTOL, Tenn. - Frank Roland Countiss, 72, died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born in Bristol Virginia, a son of the late Arthur R. and Hattie Willett Countiss, and grew up in the Russell Street neighborhood with his lifelong friends, Lloyd Lilley, Phil Long, Danny "Joe" Long, Kenneth Worley, R.E. "Bunny" Saltz, Charles "Pete" Booher, R.C. Blankenship, Robert C. Mumpower, Herman Baker, Norman White, Jimmy Goode, Billy Bryant and Kenneth Bryant. He was a graduate of Bristol Virginia High School and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, during the Korean War. He was retired from a 30-year career in institutional food sales and was co-owner of Fish Tales Restaurant in Johnson City. Mr. Countiss was an active member of Windsor Avenue Presbyterian Church, the American Legion, King Masonic Lodge 461 and the Jericho Shrine Temple. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Jane Thomas Countiss; two sons, Barry L. Countiss of Piney Flats and Greg R. Countiss and his wife Gwen of Piney Flats; two granddaughters, Ashley and Nikki Countiss; a sister, Barbara Martin of Bristol Tennessee; and two nephews, Jimmy Martin and Billy Martin. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:45 Tuesday evening, May 25, 2004, at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home, with the funeral service to follow at 8 o'clock. Rev. Charlie Murphy will officiate. The committal will be at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning in Glenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Falin, Billy Martin, Bob Hall, Cliff Carmack, Cory Altum, Terry McCroskey, Tony Hall and Larry Garland. Honorary pallbearers will be Lloyd Lilley, Joe Barringer, David Lindamood, Allen Smith, Charlie Thomas, Steve Shipplett, Jimmy Martin, Terry Taylor, Wayne Ausmus, Mike Wills, Lester Delp, Bill Bingham, Mark Fuller and the elders of Windsor Avenue Presbyterian Church. Memorial contributions may be sent to Windsor Avenue Presbyterian Church, 1100 Windsor Ave., Bristol, TN 37620. Mr. Countiss and his family are in the care of Oakley-Cook Funeral Home, 2223 Volunteer Parkway, Bristol, Tenn.
