February 28, 1931 - April 17, 2010
Hobert Rice, 79, Jonesborough, passed away Saturday, April 17, 2010, in the Johnson City Medical Center.
Mr. Rice was a native of Madison County, North Carolina but had lived most of his life in Washington County. He was a son of the late Bulo and Rosa Lee Holland Rice. Mr. Rice was of the Baptist faith and was a retired employee of Gordon's Furniture. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Driver.
Survivors include a daughter, Debra Jones and her husband, Mark of Horseshoe, NC; a sister, Hathaway Briggs and her husband, Arnold, Jonesborough; a brother, Homer Rice and his wife, Eula Kate of Unicoi; four grandchildren, Joseph Driver, Amanda Caudill, Amber Melton and Leonard Andrew Vestal; six great-grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Mr. Rice will be conducted 8:00 PM Tuesday, April 20, 2010, in the Woodall-Anderson and Dugger Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Keasling officiating. Music will be provided by Mr. Virgil Gilbert. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until the service time.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 21, 2010, in the Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be John Wood, Keith and Mark Rice, Larry Balthis, Tyler, Austin and Dylan Britt. Everyone attending is asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 AM.
