September 25, 1926 - August 26, 2008
PINEY FLATS, Tenn. – Avery D. Crussell, 81, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at Greystone Health Care Center.
He was born Sept. 25, 1926, in Sullivan County, Tenn., to the late John Dalton and Jessie Mae Cross Crussell. Avery worked as a carpenter for many years at J.E. Green Construction before going into business as Crussell and Stout Builders for himself along with his son, Jimmy, and son-in-law, Homer Stout. He remained there until his retirement. Farming and raising cattle were his love and pastime. He was a member and long-time trustee of Enterprise United Methodist Church and a charter member of Buffalo Ruritan, where he attained 40 years of perfect attendance.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lois Lady Crussell; daughter and her husband, Jane and Homer Stout of Piney Flats; son and his wife Jimmy and Pat Crussell of Nashville, Tenn.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his brother and his wife, Horace and JoAnne Crussell; sisters and their husbands, Katherine and Jasper Cross, Janice and Clyde Meadows, Edna and Bob Hall, and Sylvia Cross; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Knicely Crussell, and sister, Chlora Mae Cross.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:45 Wednesday evening, Aug. 27, 2008, at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 8 o'clock, with the Rev. Dan Thieban officiating. The committal service and interment will be held at 11 o'clock Thursday morning in Tri-Cities Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Mike Galloway, Cotton Rogers, Martin Crussell, Johnny Cross, Phil Cross and Ronnie Utsman. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Buffalo Ruritan Club.
