On July 3, 2006, the “Gates of Heaven” opened and Wesley Hill walked through to meet his Savior. His devoted wife of 67 years was at his bedside. Born in Tacoma, VA., the son of A.B. and Nannie Hill, he was 87 years old. Survivors are his loving wife, Winnie; two daughters, Sandra Julian, Sugar Land, TX, and Linda Lecuona and husband Fernando, Ormond Beach, FL.; one sister, Judy Hill, Atlanta, GA.; one brother, Rev. Donald G. Hill, New Bern, N.C.; six grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. He is pre-deceased in death by both Parents and by his brothers Paul, Herschel and Aldolph. Wesley was retired from Unisys Security Department. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church; a member of the 3M Sunday School Class; and a member of the Men’s Club, where he served many years on the Trustee Board. Wesley was a World War II Veteran having served in the United States Navy. He served aboard the LST 543 and participated in the invasion of Normandy Beach, D-Day. Wesley was a shipfitter in Europe and he was most proud of the Citation that was awarded to him by his Captain for the work that he did to help salvage his beloved 543 after being tossed onto Omaha Beach. Wesley later on wrote a manuscript about his experiences and they now lay in the “United States Library War Archives” for all to read. His family is most proud of that endeavor! Wesley was a member of the Shelby Masonic Lodge #162 AF and AM.; E.H. Gill Royal Arch Chapter #50. He served as High Priest in 1965 and as District Grand High Priest for District 10, Johnson Commandery #14. He was a former member of Mountain Empire Council #88, Norton, VA.; and of the Wilderness Road York Rite College #94, Blacksburg, VA. Pallbearers will be Gerald Tart, Trevor Osborne, Donnie Branson, Brady Hudson, Donald Hill, JR., and David Barker. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Masonic Brothers, Shelby Lodge (special friends Ed King, John Wiseman and Jim Pierce) and the Men’s Club of Trinity United Methodist Church. Celebration of Wesley Hill’s life will commence on Saturday, July 8, 2006 at 1:00PM with a visitation with his friends and family, followed by services conducted at 2:00PM at Trinity United Methodist Church by Rev. Amy Holmes and the Rev. Donald Hill. The services will be concluded with entombment at the Glenwood Mausoleum with full Military Honors conducted by the Tennessee Army National Guard. In lieu of flowers those wishing to may make a contribution in Wesley’s name to the Memorial Fund, Trinity United Church, Bristol, VA.
