Guy Aloyisius Bortz, 81, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord our Savior on Sunday, March 16, 2008.
He was born March 15, 1927, in Arnold, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Guy H. Bortz and Lulu (Lyngren) Bortz.
Mr. Bortz was a veteran of the U. S. Army; and while serving his country in World War II as a Private First Class, he received the Army of Occupation Medal as well as the World War II Victory medal. He was a retired employee of AFG after 43 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Laura May Bortz; and sisters, Marguerite Hoover, Ruth Smith, Laura Ozepy, and Evelyn Artuso.
Surviving are his daughter, Kathy Russell and husband John of Aurora, Colorado; sons, Robert Bortz and Josie Jackson, Guy Bortz and wife Jackie both of Kingsport, Glenn Bortz and wife Robin of Blountville, Gary Bortz and Melissa of Kingsport; a brother, Leonard Bortz and wife Pat of Palm Harbor, Florida; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at 313 Harkleroad Street, Kingsport.
Graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Thursday at East Lawn Memorial Park with Pastor Earl Pettigrew and Pastor Norma Pettigrew officiating and military rites by American Legion Post No. 3/265
