T. King Rogers Jr. died on November 17, 2011 at the Wellmont Hospice House. He was born on March 6, 1930, in Bristol, Virginia to the late T. King Rogers Sr. and Susan Chambers Rogers. He is survived by Peggy Young Rogers, his wife of 59 years; son, Thomas K. Rogers III and his wife Beth; granddaughters, Anita Howenstine and Susan Rogers; great granddaughter, Elayna Makres; brother, Dr. J. William Rogers and his wife June Penley Rogers; nephew, Jeff Rogers and wife Anne and their children Brandon and Allison; niece, Carol Rogers Albert and husband Bill and their son Harrison. After graduating from Tennessee High School in 1948, King attended King College and the University of Tennessee. He began his business career at ReMine Gobble Men’s Clothing Store. He later joined his father in the family business King Rogers Grocery where he worked until the business closed in 1976 after 53 years of operation. King retired from Tri-City Bank where he worked as a Vice President and branch manager. He was a past board member of the Bristol Chamber of Commerce and the Bristol Salvation Army. He was a past president of the Kiwanis Club of the Twin Cities. He served as a deacon and board member of the Central Christian Church and later joined Emmanuel Episcopal Church where he was a trustee and former member of the church vestry. King was a "people person" who loved his family and many friends. He was a true gentleman who was kind to everyone. He had a great sense of humor; he enjoyed classical music and the arts. For many years, he took great delight in being "Santa" to the children of friends and neighbors. The funeral service will be held at 2 pm, Monday, November 21, 2011 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Bristol, Virginia with the Rev. Canon Matthew Moore officiating. The family will receive friends in the church parish hallafter the service. A private burial will be held at a later time at Shelby Hills Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dr. Donald Ellis, Robert Glover, Dr. James Hilton, George King , Paul King, Lawrence Lilley, William McRee, Pete Pino, Robert Rodgers, Clarence Wilkerson and Matthew Williams. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 1376, Bristol, Virginia 24203. The family extends a heartfelt thanks to Dr. David Thompson, Wellmont Hospice House and long time caregivers Melissa Chenier, Robert Cassell and Roger Brooks.
