Mr. John David McPeak Sr., 326 Locust Hill Lane, Bristol, Tenn., died Oct. 13, 2001, in Bristol Wellmont Hospice House. He was a native of and lifelong resident of the Tri-Cities area and a retired employee of the Bristol Virginia Utilities Board. One of his most beloved activities was being outdoors and next to his Creator. He was also an avid hiker and naturalist. He was an Eagle Scout and a former troop leader of Troop 109 of Bristol, Tenn. He traveled extensively to many countries and to most of the 50 states. He had a love for trains, bluegrass music and UT football. Mr. McPeak attended Rockhold United Methodist Church, where he had been a Sunday School teacher. He was formerly a member of Tennessee Avenue Baptist Church and Fellowship Chapel.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Humphreys McPeak; two daughters, Joy L. Garland, Johnson City, Tenn., Joanna M. McPeak, Dallas, Texas; two sons, Lt. Col. John David McPeak Jr., St. Louis, Mo., and Greg S. McPeak, Oak Ridge, Tenn.; two brothers, Michael McPeak and Phillip McPeak, both of Johnson City and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Bobbie Crowe; and one brother, Samuel McPeak.

Funeral services will be conducted 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at Akard Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Rev. Eugene Deaton will officiate. Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sunrise Cemetery, Bluff City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wellmont Hospice House, 280 Steele's Rd., Bristol, TN 37620. Akard Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. McPeak. BRISTOL HERALD COURIER OCT. 15, 2001
