Obituary for Cordelia Dempsey
Cordelia Morrell Dempsey, age 81, 411 Shawnee Drive, Bluff City, died Monday, January 2, 2006 at Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness. A native of Sullivan County, she was a daughter of the late John Blevins and Essie Woods Morrell. She was a member of First Christian Church of Bluff City and retired from Raytheon after thirty-four years of service . Mrs. Dempsey was a member of Preston-Fleenor Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9629, Bluff City Auxiliary and served as president for several years. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Devonne D. Townsend; a sister, Zura Morrell and two brothers, Reuben John Morrell and James Cox Morrell. Survivors include her husband of fifty-four years, Verlin E. Dempsey of the home; one son, Jimmy Dempsey and special friend, Gayle Shull; one son-in-law, Gary Townsend, one grandson, Grant Townsend; one sister, Mary Elsie Hedges and husband Donald; one sister-in-law Bertie Jo Morrell, all of Bluff City; one brother, Ray Morrell and wife, Belle of Bristol, Tennessee; a special friend and caregiver, Carol Donahue of Bluff City. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Dempsey will be at 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at Tetrick Funeral Home- Bluff City Chapel with Mr. Tim Carlson, minister officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mrs. Brenda Pelham. Graveside service and interment will be at 11 A.M., Thursday, January 5th at Sunrise Cemetery. Everyone will meet at 10:15 A.M. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Dempsey, Grant Townsend, Gary Townsend, Rick Morrell, Bill Morrell, David Tipton and Gary Morrell. Honorary pallbearers will be Dave Ward Tipton, Earl Woods and Gary Boling. To those who desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Church of Bluff City, P. O. Box 217, Bluff City, Tennessee 37618. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, prior to the service in the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home or at the residence anytime.
