Franklin Exum, a former employee at the Chattanooga Free Press, died Monday, Oct. 21, 2001, at his residence in Palm Springs, Ca. He was 45.
Mr. Exum's grandfather, Roy McDonald, founded the Free Press and long operated it.
Mr. Exum lived most of his life in Chattanooga, but had moved to California several years ago.
A native of Chattanooga, he received his bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He was a data systems manager and analyst at the Free Press for over 20 years. Later, he was affiliated with TravelBridge, a West Coast-based travel company.
Mr. Exum served on the board of New Life Homes For Boys and was a volunteer for Chattanooga CARES and the American Cancer Society.
He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and a communicant of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends between 10 and 11 a.m. at the church.
A private burial service will take place at the family cemetery at McDonald Farm in Sale Creek, Tenn.
Arrangements are by Wann Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
Survivors include his mother, Helen McDonald Exum; brothers, Kinchen Exum, Roy Exum and Jonathan Exum, and sisters, Susan Meadows and Ellen Raoul.
