Paul Eugene Potter, 83, of Chattanooga, passed away in a local inpatient facility on March 9, 2017.

Paul was a 1953 graduate of Central High School and was a member of Red Bank Presbyterian Church. His employment career included the Chattanooga Gas Company and Combustion Engineering, where he retired.

Paul was a natural-born athlete excelling in baseball, basketball, golf and bowling. After graduating high school, he began his baseball career in the minor league with the Washington Senators organization in Erie, Pennsylvania. It was during this time he was drafted into the United States Army and was stationed in Korea where he played on both the basketball and baseball teams. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to Chattanooga to finish his baseball career with the Chattanooga Lookouts, where one of his game highlights was replacing future national hall of famer Harmon Killebrew.

Paul then went on to play fast pitch softball for the Chattanooga Gas Flames and Combustion Engineering. He was later inducted into the Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame and Tennessee ASA Hall of Fame for his outstanding talent in fast pitch softball.

Paul is preceded in death by his mother, Delia Potter; sister, Bonnie Potter; and two brothers, Robert and Ernest.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Thelma Lewis Skiles Potter; children, Ginger Potter Reed and Tim (Rebecca) Potter; stepchildren, Rick (Sherry) Skiles and Rhonda (Don) Thurman; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, March 11, 2017, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Eric Duble officiating. Interment will follow in Varner Cemetery on Mowbray Mountain. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M until time of the service at 3:00 P.M on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Varner Cemetery c/o Lamar Carr, 10503 Grant Road, Soddy-Daisy, TN 37379 or Red Bank Presbyterian Church, 4320 Dayton Blvd., Chattanooga, TN 37415.

The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to CHI Memorial for their outstanding medical care and to Hospice of Chattanooga for their comforting outreach during this difficult time.

A very special, heartfelt thank you to Paul's fellow teammates and their families for your friendship and love throughout his softball career. You each hold a very special place in our hearts.
